About

Went with dry rock the first time and hated how it looked once water hit it, way too stark. Cycled slower than expected and had a stretch where algae took over completely. Clownfish, wrasses and the chalice colony now, cleaner shrimp picking through the rockwork most days.

Note

quiet week

Nothing really happened, just topped off and fed. Rock's mostly covered now between coralline and the coral growing out, tank's looking a lot fuller than it used to. No drama, no new additions, just an easy week for once.

Note

algae is winning right now

Hair algae and some green spot took over the glass and a chunk of the rock this week, sand's got brown diatom patches too. Did an extra water change and dialed back feeding but it's not clearing up as fast as I want. Coralline is starting to show in patches at least so not all bad, just annoying to keep scraping glass every other day.

Clownfish and the acro both looking happy. What are you dosing alk at to keep it that stable?

Avery Harris profile photoAvery HarrisQuestion

The chalice coral color under the chihiros is great, how far out is that from the acropora flow-wise?

Tank owner replied

Not super far, maybe 8-10 inches, just enough that the chalice isn't getting blasted directly but still gets decent flow off the wavemaker.

Clownfish hosting anything in there? Curious what your acro coloring up under the WRGB looks like

Tank owner replied

Nah they don't host anything, no anemone in there. Just kind of hang out near the rockwork. Acro's got decent color under the light, tips are a nice blue but I haven't gotten a great photo of it yet.

chalice colouring up nice under the chihiros, how's the acro doing under that light?

Leo Barnes profile photoLeo BarnesQuestion

The chalice colors under that WRGB are great. How close are you dosing alk to keep the acro happy?

Tank owner replied

Keeping it around 8.5 dkh, pretty steady, checking a couple times a week. Acro's holding color fine at that so haven't messed with it much.

YYuki BrooksQuestion

Clownfish pair looks settled in, any chance of eggs with that pair yet?

Tank owner replied

No eggs yet, they host near the rock but haven't paired off to spawn. Maybe down the line but nothing so far.
