Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026

This policy explains how TankJournal handles information when you create an account, publish an aquarium profile, or use community features.

Information we collect

Account information includes your email address and display name. If you use Google sign-in, we receive your Google account identifier, name, and email address. TankJournal does not receive your Google password.

We store the information you submit, including tank details, photos, photo upload times, journal entries, livestock and equipment lists, water parameters, comments, questions, likes, and follows. Technical information used to operate the service may include request logs, IP addresses, and browser information.

How information is used

Information is used to sign you in, display your tank profiles and contributions, provide community features, deliver sign-in emails, moderate content, and maintain service reliability and security.

What is public

Published tank profiles, photos, journal entries, and community contributions are visible to other visitors and may be indexed by search engines. Your display name appears with your contributions. Email sign-up initially uses the part of your email before the @ symbol as your display name. Avoid including private information in content you publish.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics on public content pages to understand traffic and improve TankJournal. Google Analytics may use cookies and collect information about your browser, device, and visits. Our analytics tag is excluded from private tank, account, admin, help-form, and search-result pages. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled. Learn more in Google’s explanation of data use on partner sites.

Advertising measurement

We use OpenAI Ads, Google Ads and Reddit pixels on public pages, the sign-in page and the signup-complete page to measure visits and completed registrations from advertising. These services may use cookies and receive browser, device and visit information. We do not pass account email addresses or names as pixel identifiers. Advertising pixels are excluded from sign-in-token, administration, private tank and account-management pages. Browser privacy settings or ad blockers may prevent these measurements.

Cookies and service providers

We use cookies for sign-in sessions, request security, and remembering your event country and US state preferences for up to one year. Blocking these cookies may prevent sign-in and other features from working. Google processes information when you choose Google sign-in under its own privacy policy. Hosting and email providers may process information needed to operate the service. Fonts loaded from Google Fonts may send your IP address and browser request information to Google.

Storage and your choices

Account and contribution records are stored to support the service. Signing out does not delete your account or published content. You can edit tank details and manage your own contributions using the available controls. Copies of public content may remain in search indexes or with people who have saved them.

Access to administration is restricted, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not upload confidential or sensitive personal information.

Contact and privacy requests

For privacy questions or requests to access, correct, or delete personal information, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. Certain records may need to be retained for security, resolving disputes, or legal obligations. For general help, email [email protected].

Changes

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date above identifies the latest revision.
