The Blue Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis) is one of the preferred marine reef fish amongst aquarists, recognizable by its gorgeous light blue dorsal side fading into a majestic pale green belly; it is peaceful despite being a true damselfish and can be kept with almost all community fish, invertebrates, and corals. Native to mid-depth to shallow lagoons of the Indo-Pacific and South Pacific, wild specimens school in large shoals amongst branching corals; in the home aquarium keep a small school of at least six individuals, swimming at all levels of the water column; it is very hardy and can live 8 to 15 years with excellent water quality; feed several times daily with a varied diet of meaty foods, herbivore flakes, and frozen preparations; vitamin-enriched foods help preserve body coloration.
