Upgraded from a smaller mixed reef that just couldnt hold what I wanted anymore. Rock is mostly covered now, coralline creeping over the bare spots, montipora and a couple hammer heads filling in. Watchman goby flips sand nonstop, clownfish claimed a corner near the anemones. Fluval canister still gurgles sometimes and my kid still thinks its a fountain.

Note
algae fight
Diatoms or some kind of brown algae took over a chunk of the rock so I cut the photoperiod way down for a bit to knock it back. Annoying but not panicking yet, watchman goby doesnt seem to care either way, just keeps flipping sand around like nothing is wrong
Note
late aug water change
Did a water change today and somehow still managed to soak the floor, hose slipped out of the bucket right as I turned around. Corals are looking great now, rock is mostly covered which makes the mess almost worth it. Mostly
Cave layers look good on that stone - how's the hammer doing that close to the chalice, any sweeper issues?
Tank owner replied
So far so good, no sweeper tentacle drama yet. I gave them a decent gap when I placed the frags on purpose because ive read the hammer horror stories. Keeping an eye on it though, hammer polyps get big when theyre happy
curious if that dragon stone-adjacent rock in there bumps your hardness at all, or is your sand the only thing touching parameters? my dragon stone def raised mine.
Tank owner replied
Havent noticed a bump from the rock, my alk swings seem to be all me and the dosing not the rock itself. Sand hasnt done anything to parameters either as far as I can tell. Could just be testing wrong time of day though
That goby/pistol shrimp pairing waiting to happen or you just letting the goby dig solo - flow looks dialed in either way
Tank owner replied
No pistol shrimp, just the goby doing solo excavation duty. Honestly wouldnt mind adding one eventually but one more thing to keep alive and happy right now feels like a lot. Flow is close, still nudging the wavemaker angle every week or so
Livestock or corals though... That anemone and the hammer, did you get those local or ship them in?
Tank owner replied
Both local, lfs had the hammer in stock and the anemone actually came in with the clowns basically attached, wasnt even planning on getting one that day
