About

Sits by the window where it actually gets some natural light in the afternoon, which the hairgrass seems happy about. Seiryu stone anchors it, guppies and a big crew of amano shrimp keep it busy, corys rooting around the substrate like always. Low maintenance most weeks, just a WC and moving on.

Note

corys being corys

The corys spend most of the day rooting around in the substrate together, barely ever split up. Guppies are doing their normal guppy thing chasing each other around the hairgrass. Shrimp mostly hang out near the stone and the ramshorns just show up wherever they want. Tank's filled in a lot since those early bare patches, nice just watching everyone go about their day now.

Note

guppies are in

Added the first guppies today, bag sitting at the surface for a bit before I let them out. Already naming them in my head, there's a orange one I'm calling Cheeto and a little pale one that keeps hiding by the stone. Only a handful right now so the tank still looks kind of empty around them but everyone's swimming around fine so far.

A shrimp tank that turned into a guppy tank, I feel like that's how it always goes. Are the amanos still holding their own with guppies around?

Tank owner replied

Yeah amanos are still doing their thing, hiding in the hairgrass mostly. Guppies don't bother them at all.

That seiryu stone placement is really nice, did you build the layout around the stone first or add it in after the hairgrass took hold?

Love that this started as a shrimp tank and just kept growing, how are the guppies doing with the amano shrimp in there?

Tank owner replied

Guppies are doing fine honestly, amanos just ignore them and keep grazing. No chasing or nipping that I've seen.

How many hours you running the AI Prime a day? My guppy tank melts if I even think about more light

Tank owner replied

Running the AI Prime around 7 hours, nothing crazy. Guppies seem totally fine with it, no melting here.

Guppy tank that got out of hand into this is the best kind of accident. Hairgrass carpet looks solid, how often are you trimming it back

Tank owner replied

Trimming the hairgrass maybe once every few weeks when it starts flopping over, just a quick scissor trim across the top.

how's the walstad side of things holding up, any ammonia spikes since starting or has the soil stayed calm

Tank owner replied

Soil's been calm so far, no ammonia spikes that I've noticed. Knock on wood, been pretty low maintenance.
