About

After my first reef attempt basically taught me what not to do, this one's the redo with better instincts and less guesswork. The rockwork's got real coralline coming in now instead of bare white patches, and the anthias school out in the open the second the lights come on, which is more than my old tank ever managed. Wrasse still bolts for cover on sight, some things don't change.

New Heater, Same Silence

Swapped in the Eheim Jager heater today since I wanted something I trust more than what I started with. Genuinely didn't expect it to be this quiet, I keep checking if it's even on. Small change but nice not to hear anything humming away next to the couch anymore.

Note

Anthias Are Thriving

The lyretail anthias have really settled in and they're out and swimming in the open water constantly now, not hiding like the early days. Rock's still got some bare patches and the corals are small yet but coralline is spreading nicely. The anthias school together every time I turn the lights on, it's basically the highlight of my morning coffee routine.

The layering in there looks solid, kind of jealous of that rockwork. What's the flow like with the six lines darting through it, do they ever knock stuff loose?

Curious about the wrasse in there, are you still finding it useful for pest control or is it just for show at this point?

Tank owner replied

Honestly he's mostly for show at this point, I haven't spotted a single pest for him to actually earn his keep on. But he patrols the rock like he's got a job so who am I to stop him.

shrimp tank that got out of hand into a 75g reef, that's quite the escalation. bet the wrasse loves having that much room now

wrasse looks settled in already. how's the chromis handling the rest of the stocking, any chasing?

Tank owner replied

No chasing so far, chromis just hang out in their own little cloud and ignore everybody. The wrasse is too busy being dramatic and darting through rockwork to bother with them.

Did this really start as a shrimp tank? Wild how it ended up with anthias and chromis in it now lol

Six line wrasse in a 75 is a nice pick, mine's a lot more skittish than my anthias ever were. Rock looks like it leaves a good amount of open sand up front

Curious how the six line wrasse is doing in a tank that size - are they usually pretty visible or more of a hider once things fill in?
