About

Got hooked on reef tanks after staring way too long at a friend's setup and asking a hundred questions about every rock and fish in it. Went with a Waterbox Clear Mini because the footprint fit the spot I had and the rimless look sold me. The eheim classic still gurgles a bit when it kicks on and I kind of love that sound now. Royal gramma was the first fish in and still zips around the rockwork like he owns it. Yellow watchman claimed a cave and sits right at the entrance watching everything, cleaner shrimp keeps stealing his spot when he's not looking. Chalice and favia are filling out slow but steady, bubble tip anemone found its own corner and hasn't moved since.

update

Quick update since it's been a bit. The anemone has moved twice this month, currently parked near the back left and the clownfish energy in this tank is basically the gramma acting like he owns the anemone's spot even though he's not a clownfish, he just hovers near it constantly. Chromis school tighter than they used to. Everything's just settling into a rhythm at this point, no drama to report which honestly feels nice for once.

Note

just watching

Nothing new to report really, just sat and watched the tank for a while tonight. Chromis are schooling loose around the middle of the tank, corals are still on the smaller side but coralline is starting to spread on some of the rock which I think looks nice. Bare rock is still visible in spots but less than before.

Is the bubble tip anemone new or has it been chilling in there a while? That thing looks huge

TTina PatelQuestion

Royal gramma and a bta in the same 40 gal, bold move (in a good way). Where'd the rock come from, that's a nice chunk of structure

Tank owner replied

It's all dry rock, just bought it dry and dry started the whole tank actually. As for the gramma and bta together, so far no drama, they mostly ignore each other. Probably a little risky pairing them but everyone's been chill so I'm not messing with it lol

Chalice and favia both looking settled in that spot - not much trimming needed on a reef though, ha, guessing you meant the coralline scrape.

Gramma and the chalice both looking good in there. How's the bubble tip doing, has it moved around much or found a spot it likes?

Tank owner replied

So far it's parked itself in a little pocket near the middle of the rockwork and hasn't budged in a couple weeks, seems happy there. Foot is nice and closed up tight to the rock which I read means it's settled in okay. Kind of expected it to wander more honestly, might just be waiting for better flow to hit that spot.

YYuki BrooksQuestion

Royal gramma color under that prime 16hd is unreal, any shadowing in the back corners at that depth?

Tank owner replied

There's a bit of shadowing back there yeah, I haven't fiddled with the mounting height much. Probably could pull it down a little or bump the intensity but honestly the corals in front seem happy so I've left it alone for now.

Royal gramma and the favia looking good together, nice little reef

Chalice and favia looking healthy in there. What's your alk sitting at these days
