Wanted something planted that wasn't just another green box on a shelf, so Coastal Bay ended up half hardscape, half jungle with the seiryu stone doing most of the visual work against the sword and hygrophila. Kessil A360X over the top, UNS Delta 60 doing filtration, Fluval E200 keeping it steady since the heater swap. Blue bolts are everywhere once the lights dim, embers stay mid-column, and the bristlenose crew handles most of the glass duty on their own. Assassins keep the snail population in check without me doing much of anything.

aug update
Tank's looking pretty good lately, pinnatifida has filled in nice along the stone and the embers school up together most of the time now. Shrimp are out and about more than they used to be, seeing the blue bolts crawling the glass in the mornings. Happy with where it's at.

heater swap
Swapped in the Fluval E200 heater today since I wasn't fully trusting the old readings anymore. Of course the suction cups wouldn't hold in the corner I wanted so I ended up rearranging half the hardscape just to get it tucked out of sight. Works fine now but that was more of a headache than it should've been.
The ember tetras look great against that sand color - do they school tight or mostly scatter around the sword plant?
Tank owner replied
They loosely school, kind of stay in a little group drifting around the sword rather than spread out all over. Seiryu side gets some traffic too but the sword area seems to be where they hang most.
Any fry actually making it past the shrimp and snails in there, or are they getting picked off? Ember tetras always seem to hide fry better than they should for how small they are.
That blue bolt shrimp and ember tetra combo sounds really nice together - do the shrimp stay hidden a lot with the assassin snails in there?
Tank owner replied
The blue bolt is not out in that tank yet, still just ember tetras, pleco and the assassin snails in there so far. Once shrimp go in I'd guess they'll hide plenty at first, that seems normal from what I've read, but no firsthand answer yet.
