Note

algae is winning right now

Getting a decent algae outbreak, some kind of green film on the glass and a bit on the rock too. Cut back my lighting schedule by an hour and I'm doing an extra water change this week to see if that helps. Also thinking about dialing back how much I'm feeding since work has had me tossing in food and walking away without really thinking about portions. We'll see if any of it actually works.

Note

water change chaos

Did a water change today and somehow managed to splash half a bucket onto the floor, my socks did not survive. Tank's looking pretty good though, rock is mostly covered now and everything looks close to how I pictured it when I started. Hose kept slipping off the fitting which didn't help the flooding situation. Anyway floors are mopped, fish are fine, that's what matters.

Note

first fish!

Six line wrasse is in, tiny little guy but already terrorizing the rockwork.

Note

cycling, week two

Two weeks in and doing the ghost feeding thing, dropping in a pinch of flake every couple days to keep the ammonia climbing. Also added a bottle of bacteria to hopefully speed things along, not sure how much it actually does but it makes me feel better. Water's crystal clear now, just a little diatom dusting on the rock. No fish yet, waiting around is definately not my strong suit here honestly.

Note

topped her off

Filled the tank last night, mixed the salt the day before so it had time to dissolve properly, checked salinity this morning and it's close enough. Water's a bit hazy right now, probably just dust off the rock settling in. Filter's running, dosed dechlorinator even though it's saltwater just out of habit from years of freshwater tanks lol.

Note

dry rock day

Got the dragon stone in finally, ordered it online since the LFS didn't have ohko in the size I wanted. Spent forever stacking and restacking before I found an arrangement that didn't look like a pile of rubble. No water yet, just dry rock sitting in a 55 staring back at me. Work was slammed this week so this was basically my therapy for the evening.
