Made the trip to the LFS today and finally added some rummynose tetras. Stood there way longer than I needed to just watching the tanks trying to decide, but ended up getting a small group of them. They looked a little stressed going in but settled into the spiderwood area pretty quick. Exciting to finally have something alive in there after a month of just water and plants.

Two weeks into cycling and I noticed a weird film on the surface and some brownish dusty stuff on the glass, think it's diatoms? Plants are still tiny and sparse, lots of bare substrate showing between them. No fish yet, just waiting this part out.

Filled the tank today and got the canister filter running. Water is surprisingly clear already, expected more cloudiness honestly. Nothing living in there yet, just letting it run and settle before I think about plants going in properly.

Got the hardscape placed today, spiderwood and rocks arranged how I want them. Rinsed the fluval stratum first which was a MESS, water went brown instantly and I had to redo it like three times before it ran clear enough. No water in the tank yet, just sitting there dry with the bag of substrate still next to it. Feels weird looking at an empty tank after all that planning.
