About

First attempt at the hardscape here was wrong in every way — wood too big, soil too shallow, and the whole thing looked cramped before I even added water. Redid it with Controsoil and smaller pieces, much happier now. Celestial pearl danios crowd the vallisneria most evenings, blue rilis picking through the bucephalandra. Small tank (3 gallons), keeps the Inkbird busy holding temp steady.

Shrimp are out constantly now, grazing all over the hairgrass and bucephalandra. Danios shoal up tighter than I expected for such a small footprint, they seem to like cruising the same lap around the wood over and over. Tank's filled in nicely at this point, moss is thick, carpet's solid. Feeding is the fun part now, watching everyone scatter and pick through the same spot.

3 gallons and no algae on the sand is mad - what's the actual trick, low light or just diligent water changes?

Tank owner replied

Again that's the nano, not this tank, but honestly I think it's just low-ish light hours and staying on top of water changes. No real trick, just consistent maintenance.

That's a tiny footprint for a danio and shrimp colony to be doing this well. How many shrimp you figure are in there at this point?

MMason PerezQuestion

Grown in a year now, what are you dosing for the hairgrass and vallisneria in a footprint that small

Tank owner replied

This is actually a different tank from the 29 gallon planted one (Peaceful Hollow, not the one with the hygrophila). But for that one it's just Flourish, nothing crazy. Hairgrass and val don't need much once rooted in, mostly just consistent light and letting them be.
