Note

update

Dealing with a pretty annoying algae outbreak right now, kind of a brownish green film coating the glass and some rock every couple days no matter how much I scrape it. Doing water changes and cut back on lighting hours but it's not really budging yet. Little frustrating not going to lie, thought I was past the rough patch already at two months in

Note

first fish!

Added my first fish today, went with the yellow watchman goby. Been staring at him for an hour already, he keeps digging under one rock and popping back out. Trying to think of a name for him, was thinking Gobi but that feels too easy. He's shy right now but I read they come out of their shell once settled in. Any name ideas?

Note

two weeks in

Cycling is still going, water cleared up nicely though. Been ghost feeding a tiny bit of fish food every couple days to keep some ammonia going for the bacteria, also dosed some bottled bacteria at setup to try to speed things along. Rock has this light brown dusting on it now, diatoms I think, kind of ugly but apparently normal this early. No fish yet, just watching numbers and waiting for it to finish

Note

got her filled up finally

Got water in the tank today, mixed up the salt with my Instant Ocean and let it circulate overnight before adding, checked salinity a few times to be safe. Water's a little hazy right now which I read is normal from the sand settling. Sicce pump is running and pushing things around nicely. No fish or corals yet, just looking at bare rock and cloudy water but its a start. Anyone else obsess over their salinity readings the first week?

Note

setup day

Finally got the dry rock placed today, no water in yet. Spent so much time moving pieces around trying to get some height in the back corner without it looking like a wall. Went with a bit of an open shape so there's swim room and I can actually see the fish later instead of just rock everywhere. Sand is still in the bag waiting. Excited is an understatement honestly, this is my first reef tank ever
