Note

algae

getting a decent bit of algae on the glass and some on the older hairgrass leaves, think the photoperiod's been a touch long. cut the kessil down and did a few days of reduced lighting to knock it back. bit annoying tbh after it was looking so clean a few weeks ago, but nothing a scrape and a trim won't sort.

Note

first fish in

picked up a small group today, went in for rummynose but ended up leaving with white clouds instead, the tetras they had in stock looked a bit stressed and thin so i didn't want to risk it. bag's floating now to get the temp matched before i let them out. plants have filled in a good bit since setup, still gaps in the hairgrass but the buce is settling onto the wood nicely.

Note

cycling

still no fish in, just cycling along. asked the guy at my usual shop about dosing ammonia to speed things up and he reckoned with amazonia in there i probably don't need to, the soil will leach enough on its own for weeks. so i'm just waiting and testing every few days, ammonia's already climbing a bit.

Note

filled up

got the water in today, bit hazy from the substrate settling but that's expected. dosed prime before anything else went in, filter's running now. plants are in but tiny and sparse, loads of bare substrate showing between the hairgrass clumps still. no fish yet, just letting it all settle.

Note

dry start

hardscape is in. stones and wood placed, substrate down, no water yet. my partner walked past and asked why i'm sat there looking at rocks in an empty tank lol, hard to explain the vision when it's this bare. bag of amazonia still sitting next to it, half used.
