Getting some green spot algae on the glass and a little hair algae creeping on a few of the older java fern leaves. Not thrilled about it but not panicking either. Been thinking about adding a couple more assassin snails or maybe some more otos since the current crew doesn't seem to be keeping up. Scraped the glass for now and cut back my light a bit to see if that helps.

trim and top off
Did a water change today and trimmed back the hygrophila pinnatifida - it was starting to shade out the monte carlo up front. Bucket and hose still sitting next to the stand in the photo, water's a bit lower than usual mid change. Also tidied up some java moss that was drifting loose off the stone. Looking pretty close to how I want it now, just needs a bit more time to fill in fully.

first fish in
Added a small group of otocinclus today, bag's still floating at the surface getting used to the water. The carpet has filled in a lot of the bare patches but there's still a few gaps here and there, moss is bulking up nicely on the stone. Tank feels completely different now - like it actually has something living in it instead of just plants sitting there.

Note
the glass has gone weird
Noticed a thin brownish film on the glass this morning and a bit of cloudiness that wasn't there a few days ago - diatoms I think, from what I've read this is pretty normal for a tank still cycling. No fish in yet so not stressing over it, just wiping the front pane down and keeping an eye on it.
Note
filled up
Water's in, filter's running - now we give it time.
Note
dry start
Got the seiryu stone stacked how I want it - no water yet, just the bones of the thing sitting in the living room. My partner walked by and asked why there's a pile of rocks in a glass box on the counter now. Fair question honestly. Told her just give it time.
