Note

algae fight

Diatoms or some kind of brown algae took over a chunk of the rock so I cut the photoperiod way down for a bit to knock it back. Annoying but not panicking yet, watchman goby doesnt seem to care either way, just keeps flipping sand around like nothing is wrong

Note

late aug water change

Did a water change today and somehow still managed to soak the floor, hose slipped out of the bucket right as I turned around. Corals are looking great now, rock is mostly covered which makes the mess almost worth it. Mostly

Note

first fish day

Picked up a yellow watchman goby today, been eyeing one at the lfs for weeks and finally the tank was ready. Bag was floating up top acclimating while I paced around doing nothing useful. Rock still has bare spots but coralline is starting to creep in and the little montipora frag is hanging in there

Note

two weeks cycling

The shop guy told me not to trust the ammonia test kit numbers this early and to just hang tight for the nitrite to spike before I get excited, so thats what im doing. No fish yet, just watching bare rock waiting for something to happen. Sitting still isnt really my strong suit but here we are

Note

topped her off

Water is in and the fluval 307 is running, that gurgle noise it makes when it burps air out is going to drive me insane for the next few days. Nothing living in there yet just rock, sand and noisy plumbing. Kid thinks its a fountain

Note

day the rock went in

No water in it yet, just dry rock and sand sitting there looking like a tiny canyon. My partner walked by and asked why im so excited about a pile of rocks in a glass box. Fair question honestly. Bag of sand still on the floor, need to vacuum before the cat decides its a litter box
