The Spotband Butterflyfish (Chaetodon punctatofasciatus) is a striking marine fish known for its elegant body pattern of fine spots and vertical bands; its calm swimming style and attractive coloration make it a favorite among marine aquarium enthusiasts. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this butterflyfish is found around coral-rich reef environments; it is an omnivorous species preferring small invertebrates, feeding on coral polyps, worms, and frozen meaty foods in captivity; it can be shy but becomes active once acclimated, and is best kept in peaceful environments; it requires a minimum 250-300 liter stable, mature reef system with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding; it is sensitive to water quality changes and not reef safe, as it may nip at SPS, LPS corals, and anemones; it is only recommended for experienced aquarists, with frequent small feedings of a varied diet, no aggressive tankmates, and a long-established aquarium for stability.
