The Painted Anglerfish is a member of the Antennariidae family, mainly white with brown or black irregular markings and able to alter its coloration to blend in; it is named for the fleshy appendage on its nose used to lure prey. A good reef dweller that perches on coral ledges, it needs at least a 20-gallon aquarium and should not be housed with fish or invertebrates small enough to fit in its mouth; it feeds by ambush, so use live feeder shrimp to entice it, feed feeder fish and shrimp, and do not overfeed.
