The Masked Swallowtail Angelfish, also known as the Japanese Angelfish, inhabits rocky reefs of the northwest Pacific from southern Japan to the Philippines and exhibits dramatic sexual dimorphism; males have a bright yellow-orange face continuing horizontally down the side with narrow black vertical bars running the length to the caudal peduncle. A well-established 125 gallon aquarium or larger with lots of hiding places provides enough swimming space; it is an exception among angelfish, making a good reef dweller that will not nip at stony or soft corals; feed meaty foods with supplemental algae in high-quality angelfish preparations, enriched mysis, and enriched brine shrimp.
