The female Masked Swallowtail Angelfish, also known as the Japanese Angelfish, has a cream to white chest gradually changing to yellow along the top of the dorsal, with a dramatic black band over the eye and at the base and along the caudal fin; males have a bright yellow-orange face and black vertical bars. It inhabits rocky reefs of the northwest Pacific and is often seen in harems of one male and several females; a well-established 125 gallon aquarium or larger with lots of hiding places provides enough swimming space; it is a good reef dweller that will not nip at stony or soft corals; feed meaty foods with supplemental algae in high-quality angelfish preparations, enriched mysis, and enriched brine shrimp.
