The Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish varies in color from bright red to dark maroon with three narrow white stripes; the gold color of the stripes typically does not develop until the fish are 9-12 months old, with juveniles showing white stripes that turn gold in time, starting with the head stripe. One of the largest clownfish species with adult females attaining over 6 inches and pairs spawning for more than 35 years, it is easy to keep but does not get along with its own kind — keep one per tank unless a mated pair; feed almost any meaty food items and herbivore preparations, and do not move it with a net since its cheek spines entangle.
