The Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) is one of the most iconic and popular marine aquarium fish, known for its striking black vertical bands, silver body, and elongated fins; native to the Banggai Islands in Indonesia where it is found in small groups among sea urchins, branching corals, and sheltered reef areas. It is peaceful and slow-moving, excellent for nano and reef aquariums, and can be bred in captivity; keep at least an 80-100L stable calm aquarium, best kept in bonded pairs or small groups, with rockwork, sea urchins, or shelter structures; it is fully reef safe; feed mysis and brine shrimp, plankton, and frozen marine foods, target feeding at first if needed, and accepts pellets once trained.
