How can we help?

What is TankJournal?

TankJournal is a free web app where aquarium hobbyists document their tanks. You create a tank profile, log photos, water parameters, livestock and equipment over time, and share the journal with the community.

Is TankJournal free?

Yes. Creating an account, journaling your tanks, and browsing the community are free.

How do I start a tank journal?

Create an account, add your tank with its size and type (freshwater, planted, reef, nano and more), then add journal entries with photos each time something changes — a rescape, new livestock, or a water test.

What can I track in my tank journal?

Photos and journal entries, water test parameters, livestock additions, equipment, and milestones — all on a timeline per tank.

Can other people see my tank?

Public journals appear in Explore and the community feed. You can select Hide from Public View when creating or editing a tank to make it visible only to you.

Does TankJournal have a fish and plant database?

Yes. The species catalog covers aquarium plants, fish, invertebrates and corals with photos and available care information and prices. You can add species directly to your tank's livestock list.

Does TankJournal track aquarium equipment?

Yes. The equipment catalog covers filters, lights, heaters and more with specs and prices; you can add products to your tank to record your setup.

How is TankJournal different from a forum thread or spreadsheet?

Forums bury updates in threads and spreadsheets don't show photos well. TankJournal structures everything as a timeline per tank — photos, parameters, livestock and equipment in one place — so your tank's whole story is browsable.
